Asking for Help
« on: August 25, 2010, 04:33:16 PM »
The single most important thing you can do that will get you help is to post a url to a page that displays your problem.

The page can be uploaded to a temporary location such as your ISP provided hosting or a temporary folder on your site but in order solve display problems and most other issues we need to see the site with all the HTML, CSS, images and any client side coding displayed. If your problem is with server side code you will need to post that here or someplace where the code can be seen without being executed by the server.

If your question involves something that contains userid, passwords or email addresses DO NOT USE real information, use something like address@example.com (which is a domain reserved for such purposes) or wrap it in {} or other symbol so we know that it is replaced by the real info in your actual code.

Note the first time you post in this forum you will get a capcha to help keep out spammers. After we get to know you the capcha will disappear.

I am curently working with EW 2. Is there a place to find features and functions to be gained from upgrades to EW 4?

I don't know of a page that compares v2 to v4.

What's new in v3 is in my review at http://by-expression.com/page/Expression-Web-3-Review.aspx and what is new in v4 is at http://by-expression.com/post/2010/07/02/Expression-Web-4.aspx and http://by-expression.com/post/2010/07/09/More-on-Expression-Web-v4.aspx

Off the top of my headL

  • Improved FTP and the ability to set more than one publishing destination.
  • All site functions move to the site menu, new interface (color of which is not an improvement as far as I'm concerned but I do like the location of site functions.)
  • SuperPreview.
  • New add-in model which means more add-ins should be available soon.

Thanx for the quick come back Cheryl, I guess I'm underwhelmed sofar. How does "SuperPreview" (I assume it refers to multiple browser checks) improve on v2?

SuperPreview in version 4 allows you to preview your page in multiple versions of Internet Explorer including version 6 and 7 which I not longer even have installed on my laptop. Also Firefox but I believe that has to be installed. You can also use the "cloud" to preview in Safari for Mac.

The other major new feature in V4 is the SEO Report toolset. I find them it very worthwhile addition.
